top-tier sushi. montana’s happy place.

get the suadero tacos and you can thank us later. east 6th - lots of bars nearby.

Sour Duck

odd duck’s casual sister-restaurant. we get burgers and palomas, but that’s just us. (they also have a great bakery)

Better Half Coffee & Cocktails

great all-day spot. breakfast and coffee? check. fried chicken sandwich and a cocktail? check. beers? check.
(plus hold out brewing across the patio)

Bufalina

one of our favorite date night spots. neopolitan pies and a beard-award-winning wine program.

Loro

asian smokehouse with great brisket and a solid bar. brought to you by the same people who run uchi and franklin’s bbq.

Terry Black’s BBQ

austin loves long lines for bbq. thankfully, this one is reasonable and moves fast. and the food is great.

De Nada Cantina

happenin’ spot for truly delicious tacos and seriously dangerous margs. can get packed, so best to book a res.

no-frills taco truck serving mexico city style tacos.

Discada

one of austin’s favorite taco trucks. there’s only one taco on the menu (and it’s great). do you want three, five, or eight?

Nixta Tacqueria

unique menu while keeping its mexican roots. who needs carnitas when you have duck confit?

Joe’s Bakery

where job goes when he’s missing san antonio breakfast tacos. usually a short wait for breakfast, but worth it.

Veracruz

solid brewery in the heart of east 6th (many bars nearby). grab a fried chicken sandwich at the spicy boys food truck.

Lazarus Brewing Co.

another popular east 6th brewery. great all-day spot. coffee, breakfast and lunch tacos, good beers. sometimes live music.

Hold Out Brewing

good brewery a literal stone’s throw away from better half coffee & cocktails.

Howards Bar and Club

west side bar with a tequila- and mezcal-forward cocktail menu. vibey dj sets on weekend nights.

Holiday Cocktail Bar & Restaurant

great cocktails and fantastic food that works for dinner or just snacking. deep east side, not holiday themed.

Garage Cocktail Bar

downtown speakeasy tucked away in a parking garage. dark and vibey, good records and cocktails. reservations help.

Whisler’s

east 6th cocktails and our first date. lively, packed on weekend nights (line to get in sometimes). mescalería upstairs.

NEIGHBORHOOD BARS

Gibson Street Bar

just a great local watering hole with tvs and patio space. across the street from odd duck if you’re waiting on a table.

Kitty Cohen’s

east-side staple. outdoor seating and a little retro pool for feet dips. if you’re lucky they’ll have a culinary pop-up going.

Scholz Garten

established in 1866 and the longest running biergarten in america. german food and beers. sometimes live music.

Deep Eddy Cabaret

locally legendary dive bar since 1951.

Donn’s Depot

electric neighborhood dive drawing party-goers young and old. great live music / piano bar, and a poppin’ dance floor.

Dirty Bill’s

wild late night bar on west 6th. full of young degenerates. only for the daring. buckle up!

Beez Kneez

another rowdy west 6th late night dive. retro vibes.

Mama Dearest

“austin weird” and amazing. strange taxidermy, creepy dolls, chainsaws hanging from the ceiling, soft serve behind bar.
we go here often.

Live Music

live music is everywhere, and schedules and acts can vary widely.

otherwise, our faves below are tried, true, and consistent.

The Continental Club

live music staple established in 1955. a popular go-to if you’re completely wingin’ it. located in the heart of south congress.

C-Boy’s Heart & Soul

“the swankiest club on south congress.” great spot for local soul and blues acts. a bit further down south, always fun.
